Spring 2008 Vol. 15. No. 3 Focus on Reconnecting Youth

Notebook news

Closing in on our campaign goal

By TestAssistant on Mar 6, 2008 12:00 AM

Dear readers,

In our winter edition, we told you about some big improvements planned for the Notebook in 2008. We also told you that we needed to raise $20,000 from readers this winter to implement the first steps of our improvement plan. In February, we reached 70 percent of that goal.

We hope you like the design and content changes in this edition. We’ve tried to make the paper easier to look at, and we’ve added some new departments in response to reader feedback. Don’t miss our first-ever sports page and our “inquiring photographer”. We’re also very excited to have former freelance contributor and longtime Inquirer education reporter Dale Mezzacappa join our staff in February as contributing editor. Coming soon: a much more extensive and timely website.

If you have not yet donated to support these and further improvements, please send a secure donation through our site.

We have made good progress toward our $20,000 goal, thanks to many of our past contributors. But we’re going to need to hear from some consistent readers who have never before given to the Notebook to help put us over the top.

Reader contributions are just one piece of a larger puzzle. We are also turning to local and national foundations to help support the Notebook’s growth. But we will be much more successful with these funders if we can show that our readership digs deep to support this news service.

Special thanks to the 150 readers who have contributed $14,066 since we kicked off our winter reader fundraising drive at Thanksgiving. Gifts so far have ranged from $10 all the way up to $2,500.

Won’t you help us reach our target by making a donation today? While you’re at it, feel free to let us know how we’re doing and what you’d like us to be doing better as we expand our coverage and our website in 2008.
