The Philadelphia Public School Notebook is looking for regular freelance writers to join its growing publishing team. An independent nonprofit news service, the Notebook provides in-depth coverage of local education issues. Its mission is to promote informed community involvement in Philadelphia public schools while advocating for educational quality and equality. We publish six print editions each year and are looking for writers who can contribute to our publications on a regular basis, possibly developing a beat or area of specialization.

The Notebook is working to expand its revenue through advertising sales and is seeking dynamic and determined ad sales associates to work closely with the advertising sales manager to sell advertising for the Notebook print and online publications.
The core responsibilities of this position involve prospecting for, corresponding with, and selling advertising packages to prospective advertisers up through the point of sale. This is a commission only based opportunity. Full-time or part-time.
Candidates must have sales experience and be willing and eager to contribute a high level of energy, enthusiasm and creativity to the Notebook sales and marketing efforts.

The Notebook provides:
Direct training, access to training materials and on-going guidance, supervision and mentorship - as needed
Detailed information about the Notebook, its readers and sales/marketing materials
Office work station, including computer with software, internet access, fax, phone, copier, mailing supplies, postage and other necessary tools
Generous commission plan
Beginning prospect list consisting of active prospects and new potential prospects/market sectors
Qualified candidates will be able to commit 15-20 hours/week to the position at start, with the potential to increase hours as the associate’s sales performance/schedule and organizational capacity allows. Most hours must be worked during the normal 9-5 p.m. business day.
Optional compensation for students: The Notebook is an approved worksite for students that qualify for state and federal work-study funding; and the Notebook can work with your university to determine an hourly wage before commission. Students may also arrange to receive internship course credit through their work at the Notebook.
